The Twilight Library

A library spider spins stories that mesmerize night creatures who heed the invitation to the Twilight Library.  The Night Librarian paints pictures in the imaginations of its listeners of a place of harmony and calm that will deliver them to daybreak slumber.  Beautiful, poetic word pictures ease the reader into a peaceful stillness. The book jacket has different illustrations than the covers.  The illustrations depict anthropomorphic animals in vibrant pastel and detail.  Such a great story for bedtime reading!

A Library by Nikki Giovanni; Illustrated by Erin K. Robinson; Versify; 2022

This story is from the poetic mind of Nikki Giovanni, esteemed poet and author with ties to Knoxville, Tennessee.  In this children's story Giovanni reminisces of her childhood visiting her grandmother and going to the then-segregated public library. Segregation is never discussed in the text, but only discovered in the author's note at the end.  Giovanni's words paint a picture of all the attributes of the library and how it appeals to the human soul.  The illustrations depict the time period with bright colors thought digital media.  The words and few and bold in font, making a statement on the pages.  The book jacket contains different illustrations than the cover illustrations.  This story comes out of a poetry collections entitles Acolytes by Nikki Giovanni.

Thank You for the Little Things

 Thank You for the Little Things by Caryl Hart; illustrated by Emily Hamilton; Bloomsbury Children's Books 2022. 


This is mindfulness story in rhyme - a small girl from a mixed family remembering what makes her happy.  She uses these reminders when she is not so happy or tired.  This is a feel good story with beautiful, vibrant illustrations.  The illustrator uses color (or absence of) to add to the story.  Both the author and illustrator reside in the UK.
